Find a great role model, perhaps someone who struggled and only really succeeded when older. Their biography and what they’ve done differently from you will help you. If such a person is willing to mentor you or at least allow you to work around them, great.
When you try to be a role model, not everybody can relate to some of your highs – awards, championships. But everybody can relate to the lows. Everybody’s gotten fired from a job or gotten cut. People learn more about you in those lows than they do in the highs.
I think it’s important for little girls growing up, and young women, to have one in every walk of life. So from that point of view, I’m proud to be a role model!
If I can’t serve as a role model, let me serve as a warning.

Who comes to your mind when you think of your role model in life?
I don’t have an inspiration, I don’t have a role model. I like to meet different people and gain something from their experiences and their lives. I take inspiration and worth through what they’ve gone through. I don’t have one person I look up to always, apart from the person that I am, if that makes sense. I just look up to the person that I was yesterday and I just try to better myself whichever way I can.
I don’t hold myself out as a role model. I don’t believe that everyone should make the same choices; that everyone has to want to be a CEO, or everyone should want to be a work-at-home mother. I want everyone to be able to choose. But I want us to be able to choose unencumbered by gender choosing for us.
Being a role model is the most powerful form of educating…too often fathers neglect it because they get so caught up in making a living they forget to make a life.
Being a role model…is equal parts being who you actually are and what people hope you will be.
