Find a great role model, perhaps someone who struggled and only really succeeded when older. Their biography and what they’ve done differently from you will help you. If such a person is willing to mentor you or at least allow you to work around them, great.

— Tony Robbins

I’ll happily mentor anyone who wants mentoring, and most of that goes on by internet rather than face to face.

— Bernard Cornwell

I know people seek me out to be their mentor, and I’ve chosen a few people I’m really invested in and nurturing their career and their aesthetic and just their person.

— Tanya Saracho

I coach a couple players. But it’s not a thing where I’m going to hide and be that perfect mentor. I just give them the best advice I can and live my life accordingly.

— Metta World Peace

When I saw that Wrestlemania had broken an indoor attendance record, I just walked into a wrestling office, Championship Wrestling in Florida, during the offseason, and they introduced me to Hiro Matsuda, who became my mentor… and the rest is history!

— Lex Luger

I just like artist-driven projects, but for artists themselves: artist spaces, artist mentor programs, and artists buying buildings and making lofts. Doing whatever we can do. Because at the end of the day, I really think that we as a community only have each other.

— Mark Bradford

I floated around in the department of biochemistry and learned some interesting things, and then I began to… I never wanted to work with a mentor because I always wanted to have my own reputation and be free to do what I wanted to do. So I worked with the weakest people in the department. Don’t make that public.

— Irwin Rose

It was my very good fortune to find a mentor, Clay Felker, who started my career at the ‘New York Magazine’ as a freelance writer when I had to quit my job at the ‘Herald Tribune’ to stay home with my young daughter.

— Gail Sheehy

I don’t think there’s one right way to do anything. There’s no one best way to be a woman. There’s no best way to be a mentor. I’m just trying to be me and be authentic and live my truth and be as inclusive and interested in other human beings as possible. I’m an actor by training, which means that I study human beings and human behavior. That’s what I try to do and what I love to do.

— Elizabeth Banks

God did not create you to be alone. He deposited skills, knowledge, and talents in someone out there who is expected to mentor you, teach you and encourage you to go high. Go, get a mentor!

— Israelmore Ayivor

The ordinary literary man, even though he be an eminent historian, is ill-fitted to be a mentor in affairs of government. For… things are for the most part very simple in books, and in practical life very complex.

— Woodrow Wilson

Eloquence, to produce her full effect, should start from the head of the orator, as Pallas from the brain of Jove, completely armed and equipped. Diffidence, therefore, which is so able a mentor to the writer, would prove a dangerous counsellor for the orator.

— Charles Caleb Colton

A lot of DJs who started the same time as me, they are not to be seen anymore. And I get so much love and respect from the young DJs, and some of them look up to me or ask me for advice. I am almost like the mentor.

— Tiesto

For years, I looked to Bruce Lee as a mentor as being a Chinese and Asian man living in this country.

— Donnie Yen

My hair is my everything: my best friend, my mentor, my moral compass.

— Keith Murray

At 22, and on my fourth day in New York, I was lucky enough to meet my mentor.

— Rebecca Serle

There’s this fabulous innovation ship called Unreasonable at Sea, where I’m a mentor. One of the companies there was called Protei, and they’re an open hardware ocean exploration and monitoring idea.

— Megan Smith

Having more than one mentor is important –
then it’s like having your personal board of directors.

— Ranu Gupta

An important mentor for me, in terms of teaching me that there’s a right way and a wrong way to do things, was probably my football coach. And playing football was one of the first times in my life that I realized nothing is given to you. You have to work really hard.

— Kenny Chesney

I don’t know how many roles I can ask my dad to play in my life, but so far, father, best friend, role model, mentor and grandfather to my children are working out quite well.

— Bryce Dallas Howard

Pretty much any artist that I know of that has found that mentor status, if they’re generous and okay to bestow a bit of mentor-type information, it’s do what you feel, not what you think.

— Rodney Crowell

I would say my biggest mentor has been my father because he always has been. Actually both of my parents have always been ones to encourage me to be myself and stay true to myself and not fall into what other people want me to do.

— Nicole Richie

Jessica Biel is a really interesting case. She actually called us after the table read and said, ‘You guys should go meaner.” She pitched us, and said, “Look, I know there are a lot of things to make fun of me about. I don’t want people to think you’re pulling punches. Please, dive in.’ We asked, ‘Could we tell a joke about your friend and mentor Stephen Collins?’ And she said, ‘Well maybe not so much in that area. As long as the jokes were about me, I’m game for everything.’

— Raphael Bob-Waksberg

I always train like a family. Antonio Rodrigo is like my mentor. He helped me a lot. He’s always there with me. My coaches and I have made a strategy for this fight.

— Rafael Cavalcante

In the world of comics, Jack Kirby and Will Eisner may have been more influential artists, but Joe Kubert was its most influential man. Even if he were to be remembered solely for his body of illustration work, he’d still be one of the greats, but by opening the Kubert School in 1976, he was able to personally mentor and educate literally thousands of successful artists who owe their careers to his teachings.

— Mark Waid

Unfortunately, many people do not feel comfortable with freedom. They must find for themselves a leader, a guru, or a mentor to take over the direction of their spiritual lives and who will tell them what to do and how to think. A guide or a counselor is understandable, as in sports or music or in any pursuit, but that is not enough. Many mistakenly believe they have to be led each step of the way.

— Joseph Girzone

I know that people look at my life and ask, “How can I achieve some of those things?” So, I suppose in that sense, yes, I’m a role model. But I try to think of myself more as a mentor, as somebody who I hope young people feel comfortable approaching or writing to.

— Condoleezza Rice

It doesn’t matter if you’re the smartest person in the room: If you’re not someone who people want to be around, you won’t get far. Likewise for helping those in line behind you. I take seriously my role as a mentor to young female filmmakers–I make sure my time is tithed.

— Melissa Rosenberg

There were mistakes that I made that I did learn from. When you don’t have responsibilities, the only responsibility is for yourself, but when you have someone there to mentor you, then you don’t make stupid mistakes.
