We rappers are role models.
Women can be incredible role models for their kids, neighbors and communities just by making good choices in terms of what they’re eating and whether they’re exercising.
My mother taught me to focus on being myself and not to worry what other people think about you. I know that as long as I’m a good person I’ll stay on the right path. From my dad I learned that when someone tells you ‘No’ it’s only the beginning of a conversation. They both have always let me know that I can do anything I want to do as long as I don’t give up. They are the most important role models in my life because they are exactly who I want to be when I grow up. They are supportive and understanding and I try every day to remember what they’ve taught me.

My role models were Amelia Earhart and Eleanor Roosevelt, and my major crush was J. Edgar Hoover.
My gender has never been an issue or a limitation. I was fortunate enough to be surrounded by strong women growing up, and with them as my role models, I was never limited by the traditional roles women find themselves in.
I don’t think anyone would say that the women on the United States national team are not great role models and ambassadors. Everywhere we go, we connect with fans, sign autographs, and represent our sport and federation with class.
The two greatest role models in my professional career were Walt Disney and Dr. Deming. Dr. Deming was the Father of Total Quality Management and the person who redefined quality for the entire world.
One of my biggest role models was David Beckham because of how he performed on and off the pitch.
I feel like pop stars can’t be rock stars anymore because they have to be role models, and it takes the fun out of it for us, because we just want to have fun with art.
Children learn much more from how you act than from what you tell them. There are times this worries me – we parents are rarely the role models we want to be. True for life. True for driving.
I don’t believe professional athletes should be role models. I believe parents should be role models.
Boys want to grow up to be like their male role models. And boys who grow up in homes with absent fathers search the hardest to figure out what it means to be male.
Even if you have a brain predisposed to liberalism, you might end up with some conservative friends or find inspiring conservative role models who could be very influential on you, and that could send you down a different track in life.
Clearly, I’m committed to women’s issues and stories and promoting gender equality. I have two incredible role models in Jenji [Kohan] and Shonda [Rhimes].
One-third of all professional baseball players come from Latin America, and Sosa is following role models such as the late Roberto Clemente, a Puerto Rican, from whom he adopted the No. 21. Now he is a model for others.
Our society constantly promotes role models for masculinity, from superheroes to politicians, where the concept of being a ‘man’ is based in their ability to be tough, dominant – and even violent when required.
Now, I think a lot of people look around and feel that we’re relatively equal with men. In fact, women are now the majority of college graduates, we have role models like Hillary Clinton to look up to – it seems like the world is completely open to us and we can accomplish anything. I think feminists are often disdained today because we’re seen as complaining about a problem people think no longer exists. I also think young women shy away from calling themselves feminists because many haven’t been educated about it or exposed to it. They don’t know enough about it to identify with it.
I don’t mind that if I ever star in movies, they’ll likely be mine. That’s okay, because my great role models – Woody Allen, even Tyler Perry, who is actually one of my role models, even if that seems kind of strange – they do that themselves. And it’s great. They build empires, and they’re known as having their own voice. I think it’s 20 times more fun to act on a set where I feel the freedom to change the dialogue.
As a teacher, I can help my students see what is working and not working. I can show them certain solutions. I can guide them to books that will serve as role models. Largely, though, one learns to write almost like developing muscle memory, and this requires years of effort.
The expectation was I would get married and become a mother and settle down. We didn’t have any role models. We saw teachers and doctors and nurses, but I’m not a teacher, and there was no possibility of being a doctor or a nurse. I had to work and find my own way.
I think the best role models for women are people who are fruitfully and confidently themselves, who bring light into the world.
People always ask me who my role models are and who I want to be like, and I don’t wanna be like anybody; I wanna be me. I look up to a lot of people, and they have had great influences on me, but I wanna be original and different.
I want to play positive role models – women who mean something to other women.
