I have nothing but respect for John Cena and his work rate. He’s one of the hardest-working wrestlers there ever was. He’s been a great champion, an inspiring role model. It’s not easy being John Cena and carrying all the weight of the company on your back all the time.
It’s hard to consider myself one when a lot of my fans and people who are calling me a role model are people my age and sometimes older than me. I feel like they’re at the same walk of life that I’m in right now, and they can probably teach me things about life, too.
It’s always nerve-wracking when people say they look up to you or that you’re a good role model. It’s such a double-edged sword, because you realize you’ve been put on this pedestal, and you have to make sure that you don’t do anything to get torn down.
I really believe that’s one of the many reasons that God had put me right in the middle of the Backstreet Boys. There are so many stars today that don’t realize the impact they have on young people. Being a superstar is great, as long as you can be a positive role model.
By being a living role model of what you want to receive from others, you create more of what you want in your life.
You just have to know that there’s people watching you, and you’ve got to be a positive role model and not put yourself in bad situations.
Howard Roark stood as a role model for me – as exactly the way I already was living. Even at that tender age [18] I already felt that. And it was intuitive or instinctive or inbred stubbornness or whatever; but I had already made those choices and suffered for them.
I think a role model is a person who says, ‘This is who I am.’
My sister Jennifer is an Emmy winning journalist and mother of three amazing girls. She brings an exceptional dedication to her job, her family, and her community, and has been a role model of mine for many, many years. I’m extremely proud of her.

I always say, ‘First complete your education, be what you want to be in life, get a position, start earning. Then, when you are financially stable, everything will be stable in your life.’ I have become like a role model, and people feel that I must have had a really cool life, my parents accepting me, like a Cinderella story. It’s not like a Cinderella story for me. I had to be my own fairy godmother and create myself. I took decisions and I lived with those decisions, and I did everything for my own dignity.
Children up to the age of seven are like sponges. They look up to adults and copy what they do. So I thought if I could create a positive role model – a superhero, if you like – who moves around and has a balanced lifestyle – then they would be motivated to move more.

Be a good reading role model. Show kids what you like to read, what you don’t like to read, how you choose what you read. Let them see you reading.
Kids need role models, whether it’s baseball players, actors or musicians: people to bring a little positive light into their hearts and minds. We need to be a little kinder to those people because it’s not easy being that role model, looked upon as something we are all incapable of being – too perfect.
