When I think of my version of a role model, it’s not about being the perfect Samaritan; it’s just being out there and being honest and happily imperfect.
You just have to know that there’s people watching you, and you’ve got to be a positive role model and not put yourself in bad situations.
It’s overwhelming … to know there are hundreds of kids out there that look up to me. I know that’s a big responsibility. I am also very confident to say that it is wonderful and I’ll do my best that I can do to be the best role model I can be.
I’m a role model.
To me, I don’t think it does anybody any good to just hide something or cover it up or lie or whatever. I think … that’s what being a role model is all about. It’s not about being perfect. It’s about speaking about your issues and inspiring others to get help.
Part of our business is that you read interviews with these people and they don’t really talk candidly about what’s going on and the struggle – the struggle to do what you love and to maintain body image and to maintain this sort of false stature of who you’re supposed to be as a role model and also who you are supposed to be to yourself personally and privately.
It would be too frightening for me to consider myself a role model. But I like the idea of not being afraid of letting your imagination rule you, to feel the freedom of expression, to let creativity be your overwhelming drive rather than other things.
